Reading through the books on the demon wars at the scriptorium I came across what was a strikingly new book on the topic, made only about 20 years ago. The book was a research done by a team from the White Lotus Academy, a prestigious school of wizardry about a day northwest of here. The author was Nyx Es’Daan, who holds the title of Headmistress.
In the book she discusses the life, death, undeath, and destruction of Lambach in relation to the ebbing and flowing tides of demonic influence on Illumine, and argues that the Sunlands’ myopic focus on stomping out Devil-worship allows demon cults to thrive in the shadows. I’m sure she would find satisfaction in our tails of the cult group we dispatched not long ago. I will need to return to read the rest of the book, as I found it late in the day.

As I came up from the basement today I startled Eshru, who was making progress on the design changes. He had already placed several studs to form the new wall with. I asked if he could procure some additional lumber of the same quality for a project I was working on, and leave it by the basement door. He noted he would add the cost to the total bill, which was a pittance compared to the cost of the springs.
Reading the rest of Nyx Es’Daan’s book was quite revealing. She discussed three artifacts the family Lambach created, all of which have now been destroyed.
Quote
The first, the Ruby Heart of Esterhaven, was a great jagged red crystal that exploded to open the Great Gate, 144 years ago. The second, the Golden Tome of Urathi which bound a demon, that was destroyed by adventurers 43 years ago.. The last, the Wrathstone, was a huge, cabochon cut ruby that held a bound Balor and caused rage, jealousy, and avarice in all who beheld it.
The author claims to have personally participated in its destruction, and to have witnessed the final destruction of Lambach. She makes a cryptic reference to “never having imagined anybody being so devious as to sell their soul to three different Demon princes.”
The tome mentioned sounds to be about the same size and quality of the tome now held in the safe box, save it has a dark leather cover with silver edging, not gold.
I wonder if this is in fact a fourth artifact, or perhaps the master tome used to create the others. Either way, I have sent a message to the school, asking if Nyx is still with us, and if she would be interested in helping destroy another artifact of Lambach. While I do not expect a reply, I have included the cost so one can be sent if so desired. Hopefully either she or her replacement at the school may be able to give me some information on the topic. I used the signature of
“an acquaintance of Lady Rialta”, as I would not want an interceptor of the message to know my exact name. The courier knows how to reach me if there is a reply, which is enough.
